Structure
In addition to management support services, the Directorate Statistics and Economic Analysis comprises of five line functions sub-directorates, i.e. Economic Analysis, Economic Research, Sectoral Statistics, Statistical Research and Statistical Information.
Sub-directorate: Economic Analysis
Aim: To compile economic analysis and outlook information.
Functions
• Monitor the economic impact of existing and new policies
• Interpret, analyse and render advice on the economic performance of the sector
• Compile a weekly price watch report
• Compile an economic report on agriculture, forestry and fisheries
Sub-directorate: Economic Research
Aim: To provide economic research services in the sector on agricultural production and resource economics.
Functions
• Compile topical economic research reports
• Conduct impact studies on programmes/projects/initiatives within DAFF
• Facilitate farm management operational tools development
• Coordinate uniformity in the use of agricultural economic norms and standards within the sector
• The maintenance of the FINREC, COMBUD, and PROVIDE systems
Sub-directorate Sectoral Statistics
Aim: To establish and maintain a comprehensive database on the agricultural sector.
Functions:
- Compile commodity statistics.
- Determine economic trends and price indices.
- Monitor the statistical indicators of the sector.
- Establish farm profiles and sector demographics.
Sub-directorate Statistical Research
Aim: To monitor and project trends in agricultural production, food security and food utilisation.
Functions:
- Undertake production forecasts and estimates.
- Monitor food security and food utilisation.
- Research statistical methodologies.
Sub-directorate Statistical Information
Aim: To disseminate agricultural statistical information.
Functions:
- Administer publications of the Directorate.
- Determine agricultural trends.
- Respond to client enquiries.
- Develop and maintain a Farmers' Register System
